Hair Extensions

Here are some guidelines to help you to maintain the look and integrity of not only your new extensions but your own natural hair as well.

For the first 24-hours or so, remember that it is normal for the extensions to feel a bit uncomfortable because your scalp is not used to the weight of the extra hair you now have. If it is too uncomfortable to sleep, take Tylenol or ibuprofen to help.

When shampooing, do not scrub your scalp or close to where your extensions are attached (which will move down the hair shaft as time goes by) and never wash your hair upside down. Be sure to completely wash your full scalp to avoid the buildup of products which may cause your extensions to slip. Washing your hair daily and exercising often may cause your extensions to last a shorter time.

Use a gentle touch and remember even though the extensions feel like your own hair, they need to be cared for in a gentler manner.

Apply conditioner only to the ends of your hair. Any conditioner that comes in contact with the attached area of the extension will compromise the life of your extensions. If you do not regularly use conditioner, you will need to now. Your extensions do not get the same nutrients and vitamins your actual hair does, so you must condition your extensions.

Do not use conditioner directly on the attached area of your extensions. Use conditioner from your ponytail and down to avoid any slippage. Also, do not use any leave-in conditioners or oil-based products close to your scalp.

After you shower, do not leave your hair in a towel on top of your head. This will cause tangles and unnecessary stress on your extensions

When you brush your hair, use the brush that I provide you. Never put tension on your extensions.

I suggest brushing your hair prior to shampooing and conditioning. If you must brush your hair wet, which I do not recommend, hold your hair in a ponytail in a tight fist at the nape of your neck and brush hair with your other hand making sure there is no tension on the scalp.

When brushing, place your hand on the scalp while you brush until you feel comfortable enough not to brush the attached hair extension area.

Throughout the day your extensions may get tangled and I suggest using an oil (mid-shaft and ends only) with the brush provided on the ends only holding your hair in a ponytail in a tight fist at the nape of your neck.

Never use a comb on the hair between the scalp and the attached area. Use the brush provided.

When going to bed at night or exercising, pull your hair into a loose ponytail at the nape of your neck or a loose braid. This will prevent tangling.

Never go to bed with wet hair. This will cause the extensions to slip and/or come out. In this case, you will have to repay the application charge to put them back in.

Using a satin or silk pillowcase keeps their hair from tangling at night.

When blow-drying: use your blow dryer on a low setting to dry your hair at the scalp and around the attached area.

When styling your hair with flat irons or curling irons, avoid any contact with the attached area. Also, it is important to use a heat protector on your natural hair as well as the extensions.

Avoid using a hairspray. Hairspray is mostly made of alcohol which will dry out your extensions and limit the life of your extension hair.

If you choose to use products that are not recommended, it will dry out your extension hair and compromise the life of your extensions.

Avoid immersing your hair in pool water, Jacuzzi, and the ocean. This may compromise the quality of the extension and hair may become dry or brittle, shortening the life of the hair you just invested in. If you do choose to swim or get your extensions wet, do not leave your hair up, let it down and try to blow dry after you are done. Saunas may also compromise your extensions.

If you lose any extensions, which is very likely to happen, I suggest that you keep those extensions in a Ziploc bag for your next visit. They are easily reinstalled. If you lose more than 15 extensions in the first 2 weeks, please call to make an appointment to figure what is causing this.

Please do not attempt to bleach or color your hair yourself. I cannot guarantee my work if there is tampering with the extensions in any other service.

You must maintain salon aftercare for your extensions. If not, you will compromise the health and integrity of your own hair as well as shorten the life of your extension hair.

Ideally, your extension hair will last about 6-8 months with proper care and maintenance. Some extension hair over time and with styling becomes dry and damaged and may not be able to be reused. At this point, you may have to purchase a partial amount of new hair to maintain the same length and fullness.

If this is for a one time occasion and you do not plan to maintain your extensions with follow up appointments, that’s OK too. Although it is very important to care for your extensions in the same careful manner.

DO NOT attempt to remove hair extensions yourself! I can only guarantee my work if I personally maintained your extensions.

Using the right products is very important. Sulfate-free and paraben-free products are ideal for longevity. I recommend using Nº9 Luxe Extension Shampoo & Conditioner, Repair Mask and Argan Oil Serum.

Hair Color

Here are some guidelines to help you to maintain the look and integrity of your hair color.

Wait 24-48 hours before washing your hair.

When shampooing, alternate blonde (purple) shampoo and hydrating shampoo. Blonde shampoo should be used more frequently to help fight the brass that may occur as the weeks’ pass.

Do not use conditioner directly on the scalp. Use conditioner from your ponytail and down to avoid weighing down the hair.

When styling your hair with flat irons or curling irons, set the temperature no higher than 390º. Also, it is important to use a heat protector on your hair.

Stay out of the sun, if you must be in the sun, use a hat or UV protecting spray.

When swimming, coat your hair with conditioner (leave-in spray works too) before hopping in the pool or ocean.

Recommended maintenance:

Glosses/toners every 4-6 weeks

Highlight touch up 8 weeks

Balayage touch up 12 weeks

Using the right products is very important. Sulfate-free and paraben-free products are ideal for longevity. I recommend using Nº9 Luxe Blonde Shampoo & Moisture Conditioner, Repair Mask, Moisturize Repair Spray and Argan Oil Serum.

Do not use conditioner directly on the scalp. Use conditioner from your ponytail and down to avoid weighing down the hair.

Hair Coloring & Fashion Colors

Here are some guidelines to help you to maintain the look and integrity of your brunettes, reds and fashion hair colors.

Wait 24-48 hours before washing your hair.

When shampooing, use sulfate-free and paraben-free products. This are all color-safe.

Do not use conditioner directly on the scalp. Use conditioner from your ponytail and down to avoid weighing down the hair.

When styling your hair with flat irons or curling irons, set the temperature no higher than 390º. Also, it is important to use a heat protector on your hair.

High heat or multiple passing of a hot tool fades the hair color faster.

Stay out of the sun, if you must be in the sun, use a hat or UV protecting spray.

When swimming, coat your hair with conditioner (leave-in spray works too) before hopping in the pool or ocean.

Fashion/Mermaid/Vivid Colors

Wash hair no more than 3 times a week. Ideally 1-2 times a week is best if you would like the color to stay longer. Use Color Safe, Sulfate Free Shampoo and conditioner

Coldwater when shampooing will prevent the color from fading fast and blending in if you have more than one color in the hair

No pools, swimming or oceans

Recommended maintenance

New Growth touch up 4 to 6 weeks

Full Color every other service

Glosses/Toners every 4-6 weeks

Using the right products is very important. Sulfate-free and paraben-free products are ideal for longevity. I recommend using Nº9 Luxe ShampooConditioner, Repair Mask, Moisturize Repair Spray and Argan Oil Serum.
